School counselors play a vital role in shaping student success by strategically planning and monitoring how they use their time and educating and advocating for their school counseling program. Explore how to leverage the ASCA National Model® to effectively communicate all of the school counseling activities delivered to each and every student. Discover ways to document your appropriate use of time, ensuring your ability to address success for each and every student.
Learning Objectives
After attending this workshop, participants will be able to:
- Use weekly calendars to prioritize, plan and publicize day-to-day school counseling work
- Publicize an annual calendar including all major school counseling activities to students, families and education partners
- Monitor use of time, ensuring school counselors are spending at least 80% of their time in direct and indirect services to students and 20% or less in program planning and school support
- Hold an annual administrator conference with the administrator in charge of the school counseling program to educate about and advocate for the school counseling program
- Hold advisory council meetings to get feedback on the school counseling program, educate education partners about the program’s impact and advocate for the support and role of the school counselor
- Communicate the school counseling program’s information and impact with students, families, decision makers and education partners
