From Theory to Practice:
Creative School Counseling Techniques That Enhance Learning and Student Well-Being
Counseling theory doesn’t belong just in textbooks – it should live in classrooms, group sessions and one-on-one moments with students. Go beyond the basics and discover how to creatively apply theoretical concepts using developmentally appropriate, engaging strategies that will captivate students. Through real examples, hands-on activities and collaborative design, learn how creativity isn't just for art class – it’s a powerful tool to improve student learning, build emotional regulation, strengthen schoolwide communication and decrease the burden of reactive counseling. Walk away with practical, theory-aligned strategies you can use the very next day to increase student engagement, as well as retention and application of social/emotional skills.
Learning Objectives:
After attending this workshop, you will be able to:
- Explain how creative school counseling techniques grounded in theory can support academic success, self-regulation and social/emotional growth

- Design activities using art, movement, metaphor and storytelling that reinforce key concepts from counseling theories such as CBT, Adlerian, person-centered and solution-focused counseling.
