Two-Year Districtwide Training Syllabus

Session 1: Fall, Year 1

  • School counseling program assessment
  • Overview of the ASCA National Model (with administrators)
  • School data review and analysis based on district’s academic, attendance and discipline data
  • Annual student outcome goals plan 
  • Closing-the-gap action plan
  • Introduction to the ASCA National Model portal

Learning objectives: After attending Session 1, you should be able to:

  1. Complete your school counseling program assessment
  2. Provide an overview of the ASCA National Model
  3. Conduct a school data review and analysis based on district’s academic, attendance and discipline data
  4. Complete an annual student outcome goals plan
  5. Create a closing-the-gap action plan
  6. Navigate to the ASCA National Model portal

Session 2: Winter, Year 1

  • Beliefs, mission and vision statements
  • Student standards 
  • Student competencies/objectives
  • Data types
  • Closing-the-gap progress
  • Weekly time usage 
  • Weekly calendars

Learning objectives: After attending Session 2, you should be able to:

  1. Create beliefs, mission and vision statements
  2. Understand and utilize student standards 
  3. Select, write and/or adapt student competencies/objectives
  4. Review data types
  5. Assess closing-the-gap progress
  6. Analyze weekly time usage
  7. Develop effective weekly calendars

Session 3: Spring, Year 1

  • Data collection and analysis
  • Results reports
  • Action plans
  • Progress check (on goal/closing-the-gap results)
  • Annual administrative conference

Learning objectives: After attending Session 3, you should be able to:

  1. Explain data collection and analysis
  2. Develop results reports
  3. Review and update action plans
  4. Complete a progress check on goal/closing-the-gap results
  5. Discuss the annual administrative conference

Session 4: Fall, Year 2

  • School data review and analysis based on district’s academic, attendance and discipline data,
  • Annual student outcome goals plan
  • Action plans 
  • Lesson plans (classroom)
  • Effective calendars (annual)
  • School counseling advisory council

Learning objectives: After attending Session 4, you should be able to:

  1. Conduct a school data review and analysis based on district’s academic, attendance and discipline data
  2. Complete an annual student outcome goals plan
  3. Review/refine action plans
  4. Write lesson plans (classroom)
  5. Develop effective calendars (annual)
  6. Understand the school counseling advisory council

Session 5: Winter, Year 2

  • Lesson plans (small group)
  • Pair/share the minutes from the school counseling advisory council meeting
  • Reporting program results to stakeholders
  • School Counselor Competencies and Professional Development Plan

Learning objectives: After attending Session 5, you should be able to:

  1. Write lesson plans (small group)
  2. Identify best practices in reporting program results to stakeholders
  3. Locate and utilize school counselor competencies and professional development plan

Session 6: Spring, Year 2

  • Advocating for program using results reports
  • Annual school presentation (goals, three classroom lessons, small group, closing-the-gap) 
  • Review and reflection
  • Looking at RAMP

Learning objectives: After attending Session 6, you should be able to:

  1. Advocate for your school counseling program using results reports
  2. Give your annual school presentation (goals, three classroom lessons, small group, closing-the-gap)
  3. Review and reflect on the two-year program
  4. Consider RAMP
