Website Domain Use

ASCA owns a number of domains. These are available for use by all SCAs at no cost as long as the SCA remains in good standing.

ASCA also will take over the ownership and payment for these four specific domain addresses. Reach out by email to begin a domain ownership transfer request for any addresses listed below: 

• stateschoolcounselor.org and stateschoolcounselor.com (e.g. virginiaschoolcounselor.org)
• xxschoolcounselor.org and xxschoolcounselor.com (e.g. vaschoolcounselor.org)

Considerations before deciding to transfer ownership:

• ASCA covers the domain hosting fee and the SCA continues to use it as you currently are.  
• SCAs of varying sizes have experienced a leadership transition and subsequent domain loss. Someone doesn’t realize they need to renew/pay the domain hosting fee, and then the site goes down. Often a lengthy process then occurs to re-secure and activate it. Sometimes the site is lost and has to be rebuilt completely. The auto-renewal and oversight offer from ASCA helps protect against this.
• There is no pressure to consider or make this transition. A few SCAs have decided to retain their own host for now but asked us to revisit periodically.
