As school counselors, we come to this profession to serve kids. We know how important education is and we work to eliminate barriers and ensure that students have the skills and resources necessary to thrive – not only as students but as human beings. This is a profession filled with collaborators who value and seek input and collaboration with others. We find great purpose in working with our students, and partnering with teachers, administrators, other school staff, families and community members to make our work even more impactful. Most school counselors do not choose this profession because they are seeking vast amounts of money, fame or accolades. Yet school counselors, in my eyes, are deserving of all that and more.
In this month’s newsletter we celebrate YOU: those who spend their days advocating for students and developing systems that lead to equitable outcomes for all students. We shout from the rooftops that YOU ARE VALUED!
You see the best in your students.
You have their best interests at heart.
You help kids imagine their future.
You make a difference.
In a world where our students are faced with challenges big and small, it’s school counselors who meet them where they are. You, school counselors, come alongside Indiana students in their most difficult moments. This is important work. This is rewarding work. This is difficult work. We see you and celebrate you!
We want you to know about a couple of great opportunities that are on the horizon for school counselors in Indiana. On March 9, we will welcome Dr. Russell Sabella for the Solution Focused Brief Counseling workshop, in person in Indianapolis. Learn more and sign up for the workshop. The cost for ISCA members is only $35, but spots are limited!
Later in the winter, we will also be seeking out Indiana school counselors to serve on our board of directors. The application for the ISCA Board of Directors will go live in February. This is a great opportunity to get involved in ISCA at a high level and help drive our work forward. We hope you will consider applying for this important role in our organization.
