Not that you need a particular reason to celebrate the hard work school counselors do all year round, but National School Counseling Week is just about a month away! Sponsored by the American School Counselor Association (ASCA), school counselors will be celebrated across the country during the week of February 3, 2020. This year’s theme is School Counselors: Helping Build Better Humans. According to ASCA, National School Counseling Week “highlights the tremendous impact school counselors can have in helping students achieve school success and plan for a career,” and is the perfect time of year to advocate for not only for your profession, but for yourself.
Not good at tooting your own horn? As school counselors, that’s not typically our forte. Fortunately, though, ASCA has put together a Promotional Toolkit to help you get started. They also have many materials and documents for your use (several of which are free), and a quick Google or Pinterest search will result in even more creative, don’t-need-to-reinvent-the-wheel ideas. Use National School Counseling Week 2020 to leverage your administration, PTSA, and/or social media to help students, parents and teachers better understand what school counselors do!
