President’s Letter: Celebrating School Counselors
By Marguerite Ohrtman | January 2020
Happy New Year and welcome to 2020, MSCA members!
I hope that you were able to find fun and meaningful ways to celebrate the new year earlier this month. This year, we look forward to sharing more about the important work school counselors do in our schools. As we start 2020, many exciting things are happening for Minnesota school counselors!
In January and February, please join us by sharing your story about your work as a school counselor using the hashtags #wearemsca and #MNSchoolCounselorsChangeLives or on Twitter with @wearemsca and @ascatweets. MSCA wants you to share a picture of your work as a school counselor or with one of the great National School Counseling Week signs from the ASCA website. These posts will be highlighted and shared during National School Counseling Week, February 3–7, and at MSCA Day on the Hill on March 26.
Please share with your students, families, teachers, administration and community information about National School Counseling Week. I wish that every week was school counseling week because we have a right to be recognized for the hard work that school counselors do. Be sure to celebrate your successes as you start this year and plan to come advocate for the profession at Day on the Hill on March 26.
Finally, I hope that you can join us at our annual conference on April 5–7, 2020. There are so many great speakers, keynotes, awards, and much more to be shared with our school counselors.
Thank you for all of the great work you do, not just to start 2020, but throughout the entire year. I am proud to serve as president of MSCA and am happy to continue its mission of connecting, supporting and empowering the school counselors of our great state.
