President’s Letter: We’re All About School Counselors

By Dana Jackson | November 2018

The Lone Star State School Counselor Annual Conference “It’s ALL About YOU 2” was another huge success. Thank you to the hundreds of school counselors from across Texas who took time to celebrate, network and learn. It was all about you!

It was all about learning.
We had terrific keynote and pre-conference speakers and many school counselors who presented their knowledge on school counseling.

It was all about the leadership, networking and having fun.
This great conference brought many school counselors and leaders together to celebrate our profession. I am so proud!

We celebrated and recognized our 2017 Texas school counselor of the year, Christina Nunez (show in left photo with Eric Sparks of ASCA) and recognized our 2018 Texas school counselor of the year, Nwakaego Edordu (right photo). We also celebrated our four amazing finalists, (shown below, from L) Chansi Shope, Grapevine-Collyville ISD; Julia Brown Rea, Mansfield ISD; Annette Monsivais, Socorro ISD; and Stephanie Lerner, Del Valle ISD.

It was all about awards.
We celebrated the outstanding school counseling programs from Bronze winning schools, to Silver winners, to Gold on the Road to RAMP.  Congratulations to many schools celebrated with this honor.

Finally, we celebrated our Advocate Leader, Chris Kent (shown at right), who respects the work of a school counselors. As a business leader, she has time to legislate for us. She is an extension of our voice as school counselors.

Thank you for another year of great memories of the 2018 Annual Conference. And thank you to all school counselors from the leadership board of the Lone Star State School Counselors Association.
