This is an exciting time to be a part of the Arkansas School Counselor Association! We are over 500 members strong and continue to increase in membership numbers each day. The 2018 ArSCA/ADE conference in Hot Springs was packed with professional development hours offered in areas of interest and needs expressed by the counselors of our state. At the conference, I mentioned that I want us to all continue to work as a team, networking and supporting each other, because through working together we are stronger. I also shared a quote that I have used in my personal and professional life and have shared with my students. “Shoot for the moon…If you miss, you will land among the stars.” As I share this quote, I challenge each of us to set high goals for our programs and our profession, knowing that as we grow professionally, we will help our students to be successful.
The Arkansas School Counselor Association has a rich history of amazing counselors who have made a strong difference in the lives of our students. Our challenge will be to continue to make positive change with our students, parents, administrators and teachers. With our students, we often have to ignite the spark of learning, illuminate or bring the path of choice options to light, and inspire our students to be their best selves. As an organization, we have many stars shining brightly in our schools. My goal is to strengthen our organization by promoting membership, to provide professional benefits to our members and to advocate for the work that all Arkansas counselors are doing each day. I am honored to be part of such a great group of people who shine for our profession.
Feel free to contact me or any of your ArSCA board members with your thoughts or ideas for making this year a success as we “Shoot for the Moon and Reach for the Stars!”
