By ArSCA | July 2018

What are the benefits of belonging to our professional organization? You may encounter this question when talking with new school counselors about joining ArSCA and ASCA. In speaking to prospective members, don’t forget to share the following benefits:
  • Leadership – Membership in a professional organization offers members leadership opportunities that we might not otherwise have.
  • Political power – There is strength in numbers. Legislators who pass laws that affect our students can hear our voice. ArSCA has a lobbyist who helps keep us informed about all the news at the state government level.
  • Resources – Valuable information is available that is relevant to counselors (listserv, website and more) and counselor-related issues (state, national, ethical, political, etc.).
  • Professionalism – To be considered a professional in our career of choice, it is essential we are members of the organization that represents our profession.
  • Professional development – State and regional conferences, workshops and meetings throughout the state enhance and promote our profession. Being a member of ArSCA can help with Domain 4 of TESS, professional communities. ArSCA will help you grow professionally and can help you collaborate with other professionals.
  • Networking – Meet and connect with others to improve ourselves personally and professionally.
  • Support – Our organization supports members through the listserv, ArSCA newsletters and state and regional leadership.
  • National organization – ArSCA is part of the American School Counselor Association; we adhere to their rules and regulations. You may join ASCA and enjoy all of the benefits they offer and connect with other school counselors over the nation.
  • Relationships – Opportunities are available to build relationships and network with peers from across the state. Being a member of ArSCA means that you are also a member of a region that provides support and in-service training opportunities to members.
