MSCA Professional Development Schedule for the Fall

We are pleased to announce the line-up of great professional development for the fall semester. We hope you will join us for these gems of knowledge from some of the jewels of our profession!
  • September 15, 11:00 am: Olivia Carter, National School Counselor of the Year (shown at right), will present “Centering the Student, Creating a Culture of Healing for All
  • October 12, 12:00 noon: Brain Injury Association of Missouri will present “Get Schooled on Concussions”
  • November is the MSCA Fall Conference – back in person and on Zoom!
  • December 9, 1:00 pm: Matt Berry, MSCA board member, will present “Building Student Self-Confidence” with Dove Self-Esteem Project
Our 3Cs (Counselors, Coffee and Conversation) will resume in September. This year, we will largely be focusing on using the 3C meetings as a vehicle for the MSCA Board to communicate with members.
  • September 21, 9:00 am: Presentation by the Department of Higher Education and Workforce Development
  • October 20, 10:00 am: MSCA board will present “Debriefing the ASCA Conference”
  • November is the MSCA Fall Conference – back in person and on Zoom!
  • December 14, 10:00 am: MSCA Board will present an update on the board’s work
Full descriptions of all these offerings, plus the registration information, will be through our Monday Memos beginning in September.

These offerings are a direct benefit of membership in MSCA – MSCA members may access these professional development opportunities for FREE via the website. Not yet a member? Join online or contact the MSCA office at 573-635-9109 to join for a low annual fee of $50.
 

NRM News

If you are planning to submit an application for the Nationally Recognized Missouri Program Recognition this fall, please contact Dr. Shari Sevier no later than September 10! Dr. Sevier needs to review your application before submission to make sure everything is in place.

If you are planning to begin your application for the NRM, with intentions to submit on October 1, 2022, please contact Dr. Sevier right away so she can begin working with you through the process. MSCA offers free coaching in person, virtually, and through other means.

We are so proud of our four Missouri schools for their successful journeys to NRM and RAMP status! This photo is from the RAMP gala at ASCA Las Vegas in July with two of our honorees, Kristi Mann of Mason Elementary, Lee’s Summit School District; and Cassie Hood of Indian Trails Elementary, Fort Osage School District.
 

2021 Fall Conference: To the Moon & Back
November 7-9 in Osage Beach

Make plans to attend MSCA’s 2021 Fall Conference! Currently, the Program Committee is planning for an in-person event on November 7-9 at the Tan-Tar-A Resort in Osage Beach. The 2021 Annual Fall Conference will also include a virtual component for those unable to join us in person.
 
This year’s conference will include more than 120 workshops, two keynote sessions, networking and opportunities for self-care. Our two featured keynote speakers are Erin Jones with Character Strong as the opening session speaker on Sunday and Darion Cockrell, the Missouri Teacher of the Year, as the closing session speaker on Tuesday. Workshop sessions are being finalized now – topics to watch for on this year’s agenda include anxiety, bullying, group counseling, career readiness, grief/loss, mindfulness, play therapy and more!
