What Is MSCA Doing for You?

On July 27 and 28, 2020, MSCA held our annual Leadership Development Institute. We welcomed the new board members onto the team. We had time for all of the committees to meet, and we share a summary of their committee work below. We look forward to working together to make our profession the best it can be.

Public Relations
  • Be the conveyer of the spirit of MSCA
  • Have a face and a presence
Membership/Technology
  • Gain a better understanding of our demographics
  • Exploring joining MSCA through ASCA (Grad students would not be able to pay discount price through ASCA)
Professional Development
  • Reviewed conference sessions; broke down by categories and will reach out for more in areas where there is a need
  • Discussed compensation for Derek Francis to be able to present to membership
  • Purchase recording equipment for professional development; enable divisions to record presentations and put on website for all members
Government Relations
  • Discussed what the committee has done in the past and what it wants to do moving forward
  • Political action fund – Where to spend during this cycle?
  • List of deliverables to Goff for the rest of their contract
  • Researching shifting the lobbying group
Ethics/HR
  • Service will continue to be a resource for the community
  • Roundtable discussion around ethics at conference
  • Poll MSCA members about their ethics needs
  • Working with ASCA ethics team
  • Conversations regarding confidentiality and COVID-19
  • Knowing our state laws
Awards
  • Awards shifted to the fall since we were not able to have spring conference
  • Student scholarships will come out this fall
  • Reviewed timeline to align to fall conference
Graduate Student
  • Create a MSCA host to work with a graduate student for the MSCA conference
  • Work with student liaisons and program directors
  • Continue work with getting graduate students involved in MSCA
  • Work with intern supervisors
Conference
  • Weekly meetings about the conference
    • What it will look like as virtual
    • If able to do in person, will still offer a virtual option
    • Have secured many exhibitors and speakers from canceled spring conference
Anti-Racism & Equity Committee
  • Naming: call the committee Anti-Racism and Equity Committee
  • Start with working with the board first
  • Finding out resources to deliver professional development
  • How do we provide resources to school counselors?
  • Survey member about what the needs are (Ethics, Professional Development and Equity work together on survey)
  • Center anti-racist work across the board and the committees
