The Awards committee has announced the 2020 deadlines: February 14, 2020, for spring awards and October 1, 2020, for the fall awards. Please nominate a colleague or another friend of school counseling. MSCA members are also encouraged to apply for the ASCA RAMP designation. We hope to have more Minnesota schools and school counselors recognized in 2020. Last, Rachel Kern will be resigning as Awards chair at the end of the 2019–2020 school year.
PR Update
Public Relations is increasing postings on Facebook and Twitter. Please share with us events, workshops or other networking opportunities. The PR committee will also be working on the MSCA newsletter that is coming out again in November – check your emails!
Membership and Technology
This committee is working to update the website and to increase our MSCA membership. We currently have 840 members, but we know there are more licensed school counselors in the state. As a membership incentive, we are offering a MSCA Koozie to those who become members or renew their membership this month. Sign up today!
Professional Development
The Professional Development committee is working on increasing online CEU options for members and partnering with Prairie Care. This committee is also organizing the programs for the MSCA Conference in April and will be seeking your expertise to present and share at the conference.
Graduate Student Committee
The Graduate Student committee is developing a welcome package for graduate student members. The committee hopes to connect more with graduate students and develop more mentoring for these MSCA members. Another project of this committee is program offerings at the MSCA conference that focus on graduate student development.
Conference Committee
The Conference committee is busy planning not one conference but two for 2020! As we transition to a fall conference, we are excited to offer two conferences in 2020. The Spring 2020 conference takes place April 5–7 with the theme “Focus, Vision, Purpose.” It is now live on the website and you can register today to attend or as an exhibitor or a sponsor. Access full details and register here.
On April 5, ASCA will be presenting on the new fourth edition of the ASCA National Model. We are excited to have ASCA at our spring conference and for our national organization to have a presence in our state.
The Government Relations committee is working with our lobbying group and ED MN to explore the use of the dean model in Minnesota schools. This committee also will be seeking some stories about the amazing work of school counselors in Minnesota during the National School Counseling Week, February 3–7, 2020. We will then share these stories with legislators across the state on MSCA Day on the Hill, March 26, 2020. Please mark your calendar for both!
Human Relations and Ethics
The Human Relations and Ethics committee is developing a four-part series about cultural humility to help Minnesota school counselors become more culturally aware and develop more dialogue on this topic. This series will be launched in October-November and CEUs will be available for this training. Check out the website to learn more!
