Celebrating School Counseling

Congratulations to our 2020 School Counselor of the Year recipients Vanessa Barnes and Nancy Stavrakakis! Vanessa was recognized for being one of ASCA’s 2020 National School Counselor of the Year finalists, and Nancy was recognized for being NCSCA’s 2020 school counselor of the year. Both leaders are from the Wake County Public School System and represented North Carolina very well. The two were invited to attend days filled with activities, including “Critical Conversations in School Counseling” with U.S. Secretary of Education Dr. Miguel Cardona and U.S. Surgeon General Dr. Vivek Murthy as guest speakers (shown below with Alma Lopez, 2022 National School Counselor of the Year). The events concluded with a gala held at Union Station in Washington, D.C., to celebrate school counselors’ wonderful achievements. Thank you, Vanessa and Nancy, for your leadership and for all you do for your students. North Carolina is proud to call you our own!
