Recognizing Excellence in Alabama

ALSCA has been very busy this fall. The Alabama Counseling Association (ALCA) Annual Conference was held in Birmingham, and we had very successful school counseling events. The School Counselor Roundup session was standing room only. The ALSCA Awards luncheon was a lovely event with wonderful food and fabulous community. We recognized the following school counselors and schools for receiving the Program of Distinction Award:
  • Summer Davis and Kristy Elderkin, E. R. Dickson Elementary School, Mobile County Public Schools
  • Amanda Blake and Sheniqua Roberson, Daphne Middle School, Baldwin County Public Schools
  • Shannon Parker, Malachi Wilkerson Middle School, Birmingham City Schools
  • Carissa Davis and Janie Evans, J. Larry Newton Elementary School, Baldwin County Public Schools
  • Brandi Shanklin, Latonya Jemison and Emily Woodroof, Hillcrest High School, Tuscaloosa County School System
We also honored the following ALSCA Award winners:

ALSCA also was strongly represented at the ALCA Awards Breakfast, with the following awards being presented to ALSCA:
  • Chapter/Division Outstanding Member – Casey Lancaster
  • Jean H. Cecil Distinguished Counselor Educator Award – Dr. Laura Hodges
  • Wilbur A. Tincher Award for a Humanitarian and Caring Person, Mary Hall
  • Individual Publication Award – Dr. Amy Upton
  • Chapter/Division/Affiliate Publication Award – ALSCA Website
  • Chapter/Division/Affiliate Service Award – Program of Distinction
  • Chapter/Division/Affiliate Program Award – ALSCA Critical Issues
 
Alabama School Counselor of the Year
Congratulations to Terri Coleman at Trace Crossing Elementary in Hoover, Ala., for being named Alabama School Counselor of the Year. Terri will represent Alabama nationally and be recognized by ASCA in February at the ASCA School Counselor of the Year Gala in Washington, D.C.
