2018 ALSCA Awards and Recognition

ALSCA is passionate about recognizing excellence in Alabama’s school counselors and school counseling programs. Congratulations to each of the following school counselors and programs for representing our profession in a wonderful way!

The 2018 Alabama School Counselor Association’s Annual Award Winners are:

Elementary School Counselor of the Year: Hayden Belisle, Oak Mountain Elementary School, Shelby County Schools

Secondary School Counselor of the Year: Dana Waldrop, Pleasant Grove High School, Jefferson County Schools

Asa Sparks New Counselor of the Year: Jan Gay, Summerdale School, Baldwin County Public Schools

Counselor Advocate of the Year: Shelly Johnson, Helena Elementary School and Helena Intermediate School, Shelby County Schools

Counselor Supervisor of the Year: Patrice Davis, Baldwin County Public Schools

Since 2004, Recognition of Accountability, Verification, and Excellence (RAVE) has given Alabama school counseling programs an opportunity to demonstrate effective communication and a commitment to implementing an outcome-based, data-driven program. The RAVE Award was developed by an advisory group of Alabama school counselors, counselor educators, system/district supervisors and the Alabama State Department of Education.

The annual award winners and RAVE recipients were honored at the ALSCA Awards Luncheon on November 15. The ALCA award winners were recognized at the ALCA Awards Breakfast on November 14. Both events were held during the 2018 ALCA Conference in Birmingham.
