Lynn Jensen Memorial Scholarship Winners

By USCA | April 2018

USCA recognizes the recipients of the Lynn Jensen Memorial Scholarship. This scholarship was implemented to celebrate the life and contributions of Dr. Lynn Jensen. Dr. Jensen worked tirelessly throughout his career to initiate a statewide comprehensive school counseling program to allow school counselors to reach and assist more students in their schools in a meaningful and systemic way. Dr. Jensen was passionate about students and the important role counselors play in serving ALL students. He worked diligently to assure that students had access to information that would help them to prepare for postsecondary education and careers. He believed in counselors and had high expectations for them.

USCA was delighted to honor four incredible Utah high school seniors, who each received a $1000 scholarship, and four students who received honorable mentions. The scholarship winners demonstrated outstanding academic records, countless hours of volunteer work and community service and involvement in various and diverse leadership positions and extracurricular activities. Their winning essays honored and celebrated the wonderful work each of their school counselors has done to serve the students of their communities. The counselors represented schools and districts from Ogden to St. George.

An awards ceremony celebrated both the students and their school counselors on February 1, 2018, at the Utah State Capitol. USCA thanks all of the students receiving the scholarship for celebrating their counselors. These students are a prime example of why we all chose school counseling as a career. We also thank all of the counselors who helped these students to achieve great things during their high school careers and helped them visualize and plan for a successful future.
